Kay Denhard Kay Sue Denhardt (Harstine) passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 79 after complications due to a terminal illness. Kay was born on October 17, 1941 in Coshocton, Ohio to Homer Harstine and Wilma (Little) Harstine. She attended the Ohio State University and Bowling Green University, and received a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education in 1964. She was a high school art teacher, retiring from Licking Heights Local School District in 1994 after 23 years of teaching. Kay was very active in her school community during her time as a teacher. She advised student groups, sponsored art shows, and instilled her passion for art and photography with many students. She was an advocate for her fellow teachers and served as a President and member of the Licking Heights Teacher Union for several years and was an executive member on the Licking Heights Education Association. Kay was also an active advisor for 4-H for 15 years. Kay was as a long-time member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Pataskala, where she participated in regularly in fundraising and outreach programs. Kay enjoyed traveling to many places around world and in the United States with her husband and family. She enjoyed spending time with family playing cards, painting, riding horses, and loving all of her pets especially her dogs. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma and Homer; her husband, Justus "Charles" Denhardt; her daughter, Teresa Peters; and her brother, Donald Harstine. Kay is survived by her daughter, Wendy Peters Hutchinson of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren, Amy and Katie Hutchinson, her sister, Sandra Harstine of New Concord, Ohio; her brother, Jack Harstine (Wanda) of Wilson, North Carolina; her stepdaughter, Jill Denhardt Dowell of Heath, Ohio; her step grandchildren, Payge Penrod and Tyler Cain; her great step grandchildren, Addison, Kaysen and Zane; and many nieces and nephews. Kay will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and many others who met her over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, the Licking County Humane Society, and the American Cancer Society. Donations may also be made to Hospice of Central Ohio. A Memorial Service and Private Burial will be held at a later date.
