He was born Feb. 11, 1935, at Hamot Hospital in Erie, the middle child of Harry Clifford Aichner and Hattie Angela Heffinger Aichner, of Erie. Ken was preceded in death by older brother, Harry Aichner Jr.; and survived by his sister, Ann Marie Aichner Knauer, of Pittsburgh; three nephews, Jay, Evan and Buck Knauer; and one niece, Brynn Knauer Gminder, all of Pittsburgh. Growing up, Ken attended Brown Avenue Presbyterian Church in Erie and school at Irving Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and Strong Vincent High School, all of which reflected solid neighborhood values. Ken served in the Army from 1957 to 1960, and then the Army Reserve for six years. While in the Reserve, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning degrees in education and business. Ken began his career as an English professor at Duquesne University, then switched gears and pursued a career as a local investment advisor, eventually rising to the position of vice president of Thomas M Nixon & Associates. In semi-retirement, he enjoyed his employment as a crossing guard in his neighborhood for Penn Hills School District. Ken married Helen Madeleva Beuth, of Springdale, but lost her suddenly in July of 1986. Ken loved his sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Steelers. His love of hydroponic gardening characterized his home life in Penn Hills. Ken also loved to travel and had many friends. As a devoted uncle, he was adored by all his nieces and nephews who thrived with his kindness and humor. We all miss him so very much.
