Marshall E. Atwell, M.D. Rochester - Died January 12, 2021. Marshall is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Jo; daughters, Alyson (John) Stevenson, Melissa (Gregory) O'Sullivan, and Caroline (Patrick Wilmot, M.D.) Atwell; grandchildren, Alexander (Kim) and Eric (Bridget Cook) Stevenson, Cayla, Ryan and Maggie O'Sullivan, Taylor, Samantha and Riley Morrell; furry companion, Lilly. Dr. Atwell was born in Laramie, WY on February 5, 1936 to Marshall and Alta (Erding) Atwell. His father was a Wyoming pioneer. He graduated from the University of Wyoming and later from the University of Rochester Medical School in 1961. His residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital was interrupted by service in the US Navy (4 years) where he served as a Naval Flight Surgeon. In 1969, he began private practice with five colleagues in the Alexander Medical Group at Genesee Hospital and retired in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed travel and was an avid kayaker and bridge player. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and physician. Due to COVID, Dr. Atwell's services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
