In memory of
SUSAN H. BARKER
Susan Hughes Barker, age 79, a successful Interior Designer of Chesterland, Ohio, and Ocean Ridge, Florida, transitioned peacefully holding her daughter's hand on January 4, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Beloved wife of the late John "Jack" S. Barker of Chesterland, Ohio, and Ocean Ridge, Florida; loving mother of Lynn B. Ogden (Ralph C. Weary Jr.) of Tualatin, Oregon, and the late Sarah H. Ogden of Hudson, Ohio; beloved grandmother to Cameron B. Ogden-Fung and Emilie F. Ogden-Fung; dear sister of Charles R. Hughes (Barbara); proud step-grandmother of Jack O. Weary and Oscar C. Weary; dear stepmother of James W. Barker (Heath) of Dunwoody, Georgia, and Margaret (Meg) Barker Klingelhofer (William) of Bristol, Maine; beloved step-grandmother of Hope, Sam and Winston Barker, and Katie and John (Jake) Klingelhofer; dear daughter of the late Marian B. and Lloyd F. Hughes. Born February 9, 1941, in North Tarrytown, NY, and a graduate of Pleasantville HS, Susan, affectionately known as "Su Su" to her grandchildren, younger friends and caregivers, attended Centenary Junior College in Hackensack, NJ, in 1959 before marrying Cameron S. Ogden and moving to Hudson, OH, in 1965 to raise their two daughters. She worked in interior design at Robin Hill Ltd. and was mentored by Jane Fitch and the talented artists of Hudson in the 60's and 70's. She later embarked on a brief corporate career designing executive offices and the Gould Corporation World HQ in Rolling Meadows, IL. In 1978, she launched The Green Frog Ltd. specializing in private residences and country clubs across the country and Hong Kong. She continued to decorate in Palm Beach, FL (Kimble Interiors). A talented artist, she could draw a perfectly balanced design without even seeing the room and loved to mix color, fabric and furniture in such a way as to create the overall effect of not being "designed". Always fashionable, Susan will be remembered for her smile, classic good looks, elegant charm and lifetime love of shopping, designer jewelry and haute couture. A poised dancer, she loved to get "gussied up" and entertain friends with stories. In her later years, she enjoyed daily walks, yoga and taking in the ocean view from her beloved Ocean Club condo. She loved talking about all her grandchildren and cherished their visits. A loyal and steadfast friend, Susan will be missed for her sense of humor and straightforward style. The family prefers that those who wish to make a contribution in her memory should donate to The Sarah H. Ogden Memorial Fund at Western Reserve Academy or the Alzheimer's Association. A family memorial service will be planned for some time in a safer world. Until then, Heaven just got classier. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson, OH. www.johnsonromito.com
