Bessie Wilkins Mansfield - Bessie Ruth WILKINS, 84, passed this life on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in her home. Mrs. Wilkins was born on Thursday, May 28, 1936 to late James and Bessie Mae (Dover) Hood in Coal Valley, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 66 years. Bessie was employed with Mansfield Memorial Home retiring in 1994 after 37 years of service. Shortly after retiring Bessie received a call to return to work with Crystal Care Center where she remained for another 5 years. Bessie was a great cook who not only managed the food service department for her job, did private caterer events and as a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church served as the chair of the Culinary Ministry. She provided in home day care for her grandchildren, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid sports fan. Bessie is survived by 2 daughters: Rosie Curry, and Twyla Wilkins, Mansfield, grandson: Sergio Wilkins, Cleveland, 3 granddaughters: Miatta Curry and Enisia (Christen) Lee, Mansfield, and Sheragio Wilkins, Columbus, 7 great grandchildren, and special friends: Maxine Parks and Annie Duckworth, Mansfield. In addition to her parents Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie, brother, Sammie Sheron, 1 grandson, 1 great grandson and son-in-law Richard "Ric" Curry, Jr. Private funeral service will be held Saturday, at 11:00 AM in the Shiloh Baptist Church with her pastor Bishop William Morris, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. Interment will be Monday, at 10:00 a.m. in Mansfield Cemetery. C-19 Protocol of facial coverings, social distancing and attendance limitations will be observed.
