In memory of
James W. Adams
James "Jim" Adams died on January 9, 2021 in Birmingham, AL. He was 77 years old. Jim was born on May 10, 1943 in West Jefferson, AL to Berta and Raymond Adams. He attended West Jefferson High School, class of 1959, then continued his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to obtain a Bachelors degree from the School of Business. He married Linda Watts in 1964 and they have enjoyed 56 years together. Jim is preceded in death by his mother Berta Brasfield Adams and father Raymond Adams, and his brothers Jack and Bobby Adams. Jim began his career in the credit union industry working for the credit union league. He found his true mission when he joined Railroad Federal Credit Union around 1973. At the time, the credit union had one employee located in the diesel shop in Norris Yard with just a small number of members, but Jim had a vision of growth. He built an office in Irondale and began implementing his plan. Over the next 47 years, he expanded the office several times along with the membership and balance sheet many times over, with the credit union being listed in the top one-third tier among Alabama credit unions. But Jim's vision for the credit union's growth was a small accomplishment compared to the lives he influenced. He genuinely cared about the members he counseled and the employees he mentored. And those members and employees sincerely respected and appreciated him. A man of enormous integrity and intellect with a humble disposition, he never took credit for his many accomplishments, but rather gave accolades to others. Because of Jim's wisdom and guidance, many lives have forever been changed. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. Jim is survived by his wife Linda, their son and daughter-in-law Michael and Mitzi Adams of Mt. Olive, AL; his daughter and son-in-law Terri and Shannon Perry of Rio Rancho, NM; and granddaughter, Angel Adams. Visitation at Crestview Funeral Home, 5250 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adamsville, AL will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 14, 2021, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Bryan Cemetery, 140 Bryan Road, Dora, AL. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jim by making a donation to a charity in his name.
