In memory of
Jo Ann Smith
Smith, Jo Ann 10/5/1929 - 1/8/2021 South Lyon, MI Jo Ann Marie (Studer) Smith went to be with Sam on Friday, January 8, 2021. Born daughter of Elsie (Funk) and Leo John Studer, on October 5, 1929, in Detroit, MI. Jo Ann married Lloyd Leonard Smith, who went by Sam, on August 28, 1949. Jo Ann and Sam met on horseback while doing horseback square dancing. Being a mother and housewife was something never considered work by Jo Ann. As grandchildren started to arrive, her life took on new meaning. Each of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Then great-grandchildren arrived. With each new member being born to the family, her eyes had more of a sparkle and her smiles even larger. Jo Ann passed on her love of family, honesty and loyalty to all those that met her. One thing that brought her the greatest happiness was sharing her love for animals (especially horses) and nature with her family. She enjoyed long walks in the woods around her and Sam's property in Roscommon, Michigan. Baking cookies will be the memory her family will cherish the most. Some would say monster cookies, other molasses cookies, or jubilee jumbo cookies. Every family member had their favorite cookie. Jo Ann is survived by her daughter Sandy (Tim) Clampit of Pahrump, Nevada, sons: Larry (Sherry) Smith of Willis, MI & Lester (Karen) Smith of Pinckney, MI; 5 grandchildren: Audra (Tom) Swartout, Lloyd (Summer)Kennedy,JoLanna Smith, Stephanie (Jake) Thompson & Justin (Brittany) Smith; 5 great grandchildren: Jordan, Samuel, Savannah, Zoey and Declan. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sam, sister Helen Bryan, brothers Leo G. "Bud" Studer & Paul Robert Studer. Jo Ann has loved and been loved by all of her many nephews and nieces. Her love that showed in her eyes and smile will be missed. There will be a small memorial service at a later date. Interment will be in Rock Cemetery, Roscommon, MI. Arrangements were by David C. Brown Funeral Home in Belleville, MI. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to: Horses Haven, 8257 N. Latson Road, Howell, MI 48855 or at www.horseshaven.org
