In memory of
Ira M. Brown
Ira M. Brown Ira M. Brown, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, after contracting Covid-19. He was born Oct. 6, 1926, to Dwight and Kathryn Brown in La Crosse. Ira was a proud veteran of the Army, having served in Okinawa, near the end of World War II. He married Gladys Kramer in April 1948, and they resided in Onalaska most of their lives. He and Gladys were wonderful partners for over 50 years. They enjoyed dancing, gardening, and fishing on Lake Onalaska, as well as camping near Lake Michigan, to fish salmon with friends and family. A devoted husband, Ira cared for Gladys at home until her long battle with Alzheimer's ended in 2004. Ira never had "downtime" after retiring from a career of over 40 years at Trane Company. He could be found enjoying coffee and treats with the Senior Mall Walkers, most mornings. Ira loved dancing and was a fixture at the Concordia and Harry J. Olson Center. He was also known as a "jack of all trades" and the go-to guy if you needed a hand. He was an engineer at heart and loved a challenge. You could learn a lot from Ira, and he shared his knowledge and experience freely. Ira was a longtime member of the Onalaska Lions, serving as Lion Tamer and Tail Twister. He supported multiple community projects including Sunfish Days, the Omni Center, and the Legion. Ira had a wide network of friends and acquaintances, which made him a successful fundraiser for many events. He knew people wherever he went, and he always had raffle tickets to sell and a story to tell. He is survived by his children, Cathryn Fuchs, Jacquelyn Brown and Thomas (Kathleen Olson) Brown; sister, Bertha Olson; partner, Alice Guenther; grandchildren, Aaron (Dana) Fuchs, Rebecca (Jamie) Misch, Thomas (Laura) Trehus and Sarah Edwards; great-grandchildren, Morgan Fuchs, Madison Misch and Avery Schams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ira was fortunate to have special dance partners, niece, Loretta Renning and Lois Benedict. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; siblings, Melvin, Leo, and Alvin Brown, Margaret Meyer; and grandson, Sean Brown; as well as multiple sisters and brothers-in-law. There's a big band playing in heaven tonight and Ira's dance card is full. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be shared with the family by visiting www.dickinsonfuneralhomes.com .
