In memory of
Hazel C. Proctor Groves
Hazel Proctor Groves, 93, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on November, 18, 2020 in Evansville. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 8, 1927 to parents Faustine and Clyde Drury. She graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati in 1945 with high academic honors. Hazel was one of the first women in the state of Indiana to achieve the Certified Property Casualty Underwriter designation. She spent her entire career in insurance originally with McReynolds and Drier and worked at the Torian Agency the remainder of her career. Hazel also taught evening insurance classes at the University of Evansville for several years. She was a long-time member of New Bethel Baptist Church and was very active in the church, including Sunday School, playing the organ, organizing church trips and the Golden Fellowship. Hazel loved animals and was a donor to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society for many years. She also loved traveling, especially to Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband John Proctor and second husband Jesse Groves. She is survived by her son Daniel (Jackie) Proctor of Carmel, Indiana. We would like to thank the members of New Bethel Church for their caring and companionship in her later years, especially Linda Queen. We would also like to thank the staff at Parkview Healthcare Center for their care of Hazel during her stay there. Due to the pandemic, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery beside her husband John Proctor. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Pierre Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
