Douglas William Reimers
Douglas William Reimers April 6, 1942 - Nov. 13, 2020 Douglas William Reimers, 78, died Nov. 13, 2020 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He passed away peacefully at his home in Hillsboro, surrounded by his family. Doug was born April 6, 1942 in Hillsboro, Ore., to German immigrants, Peter and Frances (nee Tschunko) Reimers. Doug was the second-to-youngest of eight children, including Pete, Jonny, Joe, Walt, Fran (Acuff), Anna (Froberg) and Carolyn (Nussbaumer). After Peter Senior died in 1944, Frances raised all eight children by herself. Doug graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1960, served in the Army Reserve, and took a job at BP Johns Furniture in Portland, where he was eventually promoted to plant superintendent. He married Carlene Grayce Campbell July 7, 1962 and they purchased their first home on Forest Street in Hillsboro. Doug and Carlene welcomed a son in 1964, Douglas, and a daughter in 1969, Jeanette. In 1980, Doug started his own business, Reimers Furniture Manufacturing, and worked tirelessly to make it into one of Hillsboro's most successful businesses. Then in 1982, Doug and Carlene built a home on Drake Lane in Hillsboro and they lived there together for 40 years until his passing. Doug and Carlene were married for 58 years. He referred to her as "his beauty" and loved her to no end. Doug loved being outdoors. He had many hobbies, including fishing, clamming, gardening, and bowling, but his primary outdoor passion was golf. In 1993, he won the Senior Club Championship at the Forest Hills Golf course. The most important part of Doug's life was his grandsons, Austin, Aaron and Andrew. He was involved in all aspects of their lives, including coaching them in baseball, basketball, football and golf, teaching them about life, and always encouraging them to keep moving forward. He attended every event they were involved in. Doug retired in 2011 and shortly thereafter suffered a stroke, which led to him being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. He fought Alzheimer's for nine years. Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Peter Reimers; his mother, Frances Reimers; brothers, Johnny and Pete Reimers; and sister, Fran Acuff. He is survived by his wife, Carlene Reimers; his son, Douglas Reimers; daughter, Jeanette Schoch; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Neal; his son-in-law, Mark Schoch; and grandsons, Austin, Aaron and Andrew Thimjon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those wishing to honor Doug's memory to donate to the Alzheimer's research organization of their choice.
