Brophy Jr, Lawrence J. Grand Rapids, Michigan Lawrence "Larry" John Brophy Jr., age 79, of Grand Rapids (formerly of Ewing Township, New Jersey), went home to be with his Lord on November 10, 2020. He was born on September 13, 1941 to his parents, Lawrence Sr., and Mary Cain Brophy. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Brophy; his parents; and by his brothers, Dennis and Martin; his parents-in-law, Joseph McIntyre (Margaret); brothers-in-law, Joseph (Marilyn) McIntyre (of Milport, NY). Lawrence is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, L. John Brophy III (Thea); grandchildren, Rhys and Harrison Brophy; sisters, Ann Marie (Alphonso) Montibello (of Dover, FL), Kathleen Glick (Dover, DE); brothers-in-law, Jerald (Carol) McIntyre (of Morrisville, PA), James McIntyre (of Trenton, NJ); sisters-in-law, Helen (Eugene) Smith (of Trenton, NJ), Jean (Walter) Antosiewicz (of Hamilton Twp., NJ), Patricia (John) Nagy (of Morrisville, PA); and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Larry proudly served in the US Army. After his service in the military, he worked for the Trenton Times newspaper before spending nearly 23 years employed by the state of New Jersey; he retired as the Manager of Information Processing for the NJ State Lottery. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Grand Rapids, MI, and Incarnation – St. James Church in Ewing, NJ. Even though Larry moved to Michigan, he remained a true fan of the Phillies and Eagles. Larry enjoyed his neighborhood - he spent a lot of volunteer time as the "handyman" and was known to all of the neighborhood children as the "candy man". Above all, Larry adored his two grandchildren, Rhys and Harrison. Per Larry's wishes, cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held in Trenton, New Jersey in 2021.
