Patricia J. Elmiger Registered nurse and substance abuse counselor, passionately devoted to her family, always exuded compassion and grace Patricia J. Elmiger, of Avon-by-the-Sea, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Patricia was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, and graduated from All Soul's School of Nursing with a Nursing degree, Jersey City State College with a bachelor's degree and Seton Hall University with a master's degree. Patricia was a Registered Nurse and throughout her career worked at Elizabeth General Hospital, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Alexian Brothers Hospital and Overlook Medical Center. She was also a School Nurse for the Elizabeth Board of Education. In 1992, Patricia became a Probation Officer and Substance Abuse Counselor for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Union County Family Division until her retirement in 2008. During the course of her life, Patricia provided compassionate care and sound counsel to countless individuals and anyone in need. Patricia marched to the beat of her own drum and always exuded compassion and grace. Her beauty, strength and intelligence knew no bounds. Patricia met the love of her life, Richard, Sr., a young attorney from Elizabeth, New Jersey while she was attending Nursing School in Morristown. Patricia and Richard raised their four children in Summit and Avon-by-the-Sea. Be it on a beach in Avon-by-the-Sea, Bermuda, or Siesta Key, Patricia and Richard could be found enjoying each other's company with a glass of champagne, relaxing in the sand watching the sunsets. Patricia was passionately devoted to her family and was the face of endurance and sacrifice. She was heavily involved in all of their scholastic, athletic and community events for over thirty years. She was a staunch advocate for education and sports and pushed her children to excel. Patricia was also known for hosting festive parties and backyard barbecues where family and friends gathered for great food and memorable times. Her smile was remarkable and indelible in everyone's hearts. Patricia was predeceased by her husband Richard Sr. in 2010. She is survived by her son, Richard Jr. and his wife Helen, and her three daughters, Mary Elmiger, Deirdre Hauselt and her husband Scott, and Patti Elmiger and her husband Brennan as well as her grandchildren Riley Hauselt, Cole Hauselt, Oona Elmiger and John Finn Carroll, and her sister, Noreen Dean-Tichenor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020, at St. Elizabeth's of Hungary Church in Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey with interment to follow at St. Teresa's Cemetery in Summit, New Jersey. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, New Jersey. In lieu of a repast due to COVID-19, a celebration of Patricia's life will be planned for Spring 2021 for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Avon-by-the-Sea Fire Department, P.O. Box 202, Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey 07717 or the Avon-by-the-Sea First Aid Squad, P.O.
