Frederick Martin Sandquist
Frederick Martin Sandquist Devoted husband, father, grandfather, and volunteer firefighter. Frederick Martin Sandquist, 83, passed unexpectedly of natural causes on November 14, 2020, in Hoschton, Ga. Fred was the son of Walter and Mary Sandquist of Newark, NJ. A friendly, kind, and reliable man who would delight, frustrate, and support family and friends throughout his life, he married Rebecca Laurina in 1957, and the two celebrated a remarkable 63 years of marriage. Fred notably worked as a truck driver for Union Carbide (Linden, N.J.), and as a bus driver for Lakeland Bus Lines (Dover, N.J.), before retiring in 1998. He was a member of The Elks and Knights of Columbus, and proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for Defiance Engine Co. #3 in Hopatcong, N.J., before moving to Florida, and then Georgia. A lifelong reader, Fred enjoyed fly and deep-sea fishing, golf, wood carving, jigsaw puzzles, and walking his dogs. Predeceased by his parents, and brothers Walter and Kenneth, Fred is survived by his wife Rebecca, son Samuel and wife Lynn, son Frederick and wife Christine, daughter Rebecca, sister Kathy and husband Fred, and his beloved grandchildren, Samuel, April, and Ashley. Arrangements for cremation have been made with Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, Ga. At this time, the family will forego a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choosing.
