James Carter "Jim" Bishop
Mr. James "Jim" Carter Bishop Mr. James "Jim" Carter Bishop, age 74, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020. He was born September 30, 1946 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Wade Hampton Bishop and Isabel Carter Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a lifelong resident of Walton County, Florida. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Seagrove Beach Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, serving his country in the United States Army and the Army National Guard. He graduated from Florida State University, receiving his bachelor's degree in education. He worked as a schoolteacher and a coach in the Walton County School District for over twenty years. He also worked for the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission. He also worked for the Walton County Sheriff's Department and as a fishing charter captain out of Grayton Beach. He was a founding member of the Walton County Search and Rescue. He had a special interest in helping young people and was also a volunteer for the south Walton football league. Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his father and mother; and his brother, Wade "Buddy" Bishop. Mr. Bishop is survived by his son, Jimbo Bishop and wife Ashley of Santa Rosa Beach; two grandsons, Colton and Carter Bishop of Santa Rosa Beach; the mother of his son, Cecilia Jones of Santa Rosa Beach; and his niece and nephew Elizabeth Dawn Bishop of DeFuniak Springs and Glenn Bishop of DeFuniak Springs; Joe Profitt, Willie Burgess, Brandon White, Justin Odom, Jeffrey Odom, Jared Odom, and Brent White; his brother in law, Pete and Ann White; his sister in law, Raney White; and his Memaw, Faye White. A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 – 12:00 PM, Monday, November 16, 2020 at Magnolia Cemetery; 222 North Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, November 16, 2020 at Magnolia Cemetery with Dr. Walt Campbell and Dr. Gary Wiggins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Youth Football Foundation, to the Jim Bishop Christmas Fund; P.O. Box 2039, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459. Pallbearers will be Jimbo Bishop, Colton Bishop, Glenn Bishop, Michael Bishop, Matt Bishop, Wade Bishop, Brandon White, Pete White, and Joe Profitt.
