In memory of
Janis Sandra Gavin
My Janis died Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the age of 90. She left behind her husband Basil-Jack Freebern Gavin and three children: Pete, Deleine and Michael-Jeffrey. We have one grandchild, Sofie Gavin-Melamed. Janis was always enthusiastic about her whereabouts, her gardening and attending with a warm heart the family chores that came about. We were married for 67 years and raised our children in Berkeley California. In 1985 we retired to Albion, California on a piece of land we had purchased in 1965. We met at Hobart and William Smith College in the year 1951 when we stayed on at the campus that summer. I invited Janis to come west when at a US Navy school, Treasure Island, SF. Well sure enough, she came, and so we took a ski trip up near Reno and married right there in Nevada at the Carson City Town Hall, then a quiet city. Yes, we lost funds in Reno, and so our friend Walt had extra money for us. We were young; we left our family homes back east and no doubt caused earnest wonderment for our parents. More than a half century later Janis passed away peacefully with her family at hand. She will be sorely missed.
