John L. Ash II MIDDLESEX - John L. Ash II, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020. He is survived by three children, Andrew Ash, Nancy (Robert) Finger and Alison (James) Price; seven grandchildren, Spencer, Haley (Stephen), Benjamin, Abigail, Seth, Samuel and Michael; and sister, Zoe (Richard) Swain. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Martha (Montague) Ash; and granddaughter, Victoria Ash. John earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked at Gleason Works as a mechanical engineer, held several patents there, and retired in 1992. John was a well-known and beloved figure in Vine Valley, on Canandaigua Lake, where he became a steward of three sequential properties along Green Cove Drive as well as the 10-acre field. His purpose was to keep the field forever green and undeveloped and his family will continue his vision to that same end. John walked the perimeter of the field daily, meeting friends and acquaintances along the way. He was a member of the Vine Valley United Methodist Church where he was the former treasurer. John will be missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on for years to come. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. Memorial contributions may be made to Vine Valley United Methodist Church, PO Box 34, Middlesex, NY 14507.
