In memory of
Mary Weissinger
On Friday, October 9, 2020, the fun-loving and deeply family-oriented Mary Weissinger passed away at the age of seventy-six. She had been surrounded by family every day but was with just her son and daughter as her beautiful soul made a peaceful journey to join her husband in Heaven. She was born Mary Helen Sheakley on January 27, 1944, in New Hampton, Iowa to parents Richard Byron Sheakley and Sadie Ella Adams Sheakley, as well as elder big brother, Harold who was a guiding light for her entire life. The Sheakley family relocated to Downey, California where Mary attended school and met the love of her life, Raymond Weissinger. They were in love from middle school until the ends of their lives and beyond. Theirs was truly one of the great love stories of all time. They married on March 24, 1962, in a beautiful chapel in Germany, where Ray was deployed with the U.S. Army. It was there that the couple welcomed their first child, Cheryl Weissinger Tyson, before relocating back to Downey when Ray's time came to leave the Army. A few years later, their family was made complete with the birth of their son, Richard (Ric) Weissinger. Together with Ray, Mary raised her children and ensured both graduated from college, a source of great pride for her. She also saw her family grow as Cheryl married Michael Tyson and Ric married Kristi Weissinger. When grandchildren came, Mary was in her element! She was a tremendously fun Grandma, Grammo, and GG!!! Eventually, Mary had six grandchildren, five boys and one girl, plus a great-granddaughter, to her delight! Ray and Mary were there for all the best moments that life has to offer, from holidays to graduations to games to college town visits to weddings you name it, they were there! The time that Ray and Mary invested in their family created the most precious of moments and an incredible bond between them and the grandchildren they loved. Next to her family, Mary really loved to travel most of all. Even in years where money was tight as she and Ray were building their State Farm Agency, she always made family vacations happen. These were times where so many fun family memories were made! From river trips to Hawaii to Mammoth to Acapulco, tremendous fun was had! Ray and Mary also travelled extensively through Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean often with their dear friends, the Ishidas. Frank, Dee, Ray and Mary shared the love of fun and family, and these enduring relationships and bonds are still with us. Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents, Richard and Sadie Sheakley and her beloved Raymond, who just passed in February. She is survived by her brother Harold and his wife Susan, her children, Cheryl Tyson and Ric Weissinger and their spouses, Mike Tyson and Kristi Weissinger. Her grandchildren, Ryan Tyson, Samantha Wilson, Connor Tyson, Kirk Weissinger, Clint Weissinger and Erik Weissinger will miss her so much, as will her little great-granddaughter, Harper Mary Wilson and her grandson-in-law, Brandon Wilson. At this time, Mary's Celebration of Life has not been scheduled in the interest of keeping loved ones safe during this uncertain time of Covid-19. Ric and Cheryl will be scheduling a gathering to celebrate the lives of both of their parents in the future. How fitting to celebrate Ray and Mary together, in death as in life!
