Joel Mark Flugstad July 10, 1947 - Oct. 15, 2020 OKLAHOMA CITY The Rev. Dr. Joel Mark Flugstad, 73, of Oklahoma City, passed away on the evening of Oct. 15, 2020. Joel was born on July 10, 1947, in Madison, WI to Kenneth and Marian Flugstad. In Brazil, he met his wife, Lenita, and they were married on April 1, 1978. Joel was a passionate student of Biblical scripture opting for deep meditation on the original Hebrew and Greek texts. Joel received a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Seminary in 1987 and authored several daily devotional books and a memoir about his missionary work in Brazil. He was also a connoisseur of liturgical music and had an extensive hymnal collection. Joel's love of music allowed him to teach himself to play the piano and guitar while also creating original music for the singing of Psalms in English and Portuguese. He was known for his dry sense of humor, sharp intellect and otherworldly patience and compassion. Joel was preceded in death by his son, Abraham; his parents, Kenneth and Marian; and brother, Myron. He is survived by his wife, Lenita; and sons, Jonathan and wife Anahita and James and wife Erin. Public visitation will be Sunday, 1-9 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment in the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
