In memory of
Edward Joseph Jackus
Edward Joseph Jackus Lifelonger Islander, coached Debs basketball at Sacred Heart Edward Joseph "Eddie" Jackus passed away suddenly at home on October 15, 2020. He was born to Edna (Rogers) and Joseph Jackus on November 14, 1939. A lifelong Staten Islander, he attended Port Richmond High School. He worked for Procter and Gamble in the Tide Tower retiring in 1994. Eddie was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, particularly the Spartan League and Youth Activities Council. He loved participating in the annual Spring Dance, once dressing up as King Kong for the event. He was always proud to say he was the coach of the original Debs basketball team at Sacred Heart. Prior to forming the Debs, there was only one CYO team for girls. He could always be found in the stands or on the sidelines of his daughter's sporting events, as their biggest fan. He was known to let the referees know what he thought of their calls. Eddie also umpired for various softball leagues on the Island and a CYO basketball referee. In his leisure time, he enjoyed trips to the Jersey shore and Atlantic City. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Janice Jackus (Pearl) and his sister, Sharon. He is survived by his daughters, Tracy McTiernan and Kimberly Shamamian, MD, son-in-laws, Brian McTiernan and Peter Shamamian, MD and his brothers, George and Joseph (Jay) Jackus. His pride and joy however are his 5 grandchildren, Peter Edward, Meredith and Christopher Shamamian and Brian Thomas and Caitlin McTiernan. In light of the current pandemic, a private wake will be held at Harmon Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament. The family would like to thank his long time caregiver, Gloria, for her dedication to our father. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gladney Center for Adoption would be appreciated.
