Fred K. Medley
Fred K. Medley, 92, peacefully passed away in his sleep Wednesday, October 7, 2020. He was born in West Virginia to Curtis L. Medley and Mary Edna Knisely. His young life was full of a variety of experiences and jobs from dairy farming in Ohio to working on a banana boat in Mexico; from steel mills and rail roads to the US Army in Korea. Fred had an engineering mind with an artistic twist that was reflected in his beautiful wood and acrylic work. His long career at Republic Steel began in 1953 in Warren, OH. He transferred to Birmingham as a salesman in 1957, then served in Little Rock, Mobile and New Orleans. He was named manager of the Birmingham district sales office in 1975. Fred had a love for tennis, dancing, romance languages and of course his family and friends. Fred is preceded in death by his wife Edith Wade Medley, his sister Lillian Mae Veits (William) and nephew William F Veits of Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his son Mark Frederick Medley (Carolyn) of Wrightsville Beach, NC and his daughter Kimberley Medley Nitchman (Alan) of Hurtsboro AL; grandsons Michael Wade Medley and Andrew Hudson Medley of Wrightsville Beach, NC; nieces Annette Veits Evers of Glendale, AZ and Marylou Veits Powell (Larry) of Fowler, OH. A funeral service is being held Thursday, October 15th 11:00 at Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL. Livestream video will be available on YouTube via IPC Birmingham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Independent Presbyterian Church Africa Missions Fund, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or The American Red Cross.
