William 'Bill' Labus Loving father and grandfather, 87 Longtime New Jersey and Florida resident William Joseph Labus passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2020, in Venice, Fla. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy (nee Dolan), and his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy (nee Meyer). He is survived by his son, William (Trish); daughter, Karen Grimm (Troy), and son, Robert (Rebecca). He was the loving grandfather of five grandchildren, William, Michael, Troy, Zachary and Abigail. Bill was born April 11, 1933, in Newark, N.J., and grew up in East Orange, N.J., before moving to Fanwood, N.J., where he resided for 37 years. In 1997, he moved to Toms River, N.J., and then in 2002 to Venice, Fla. He was a graduate of East Orange High School in 1951 and Seton Hall University in 1955 where he was the artistic editor for the yearbook. Bill remained an avid Pirates basketball fan for his entire life. Bill worked for Edgecomb Steel for five to six years before a dedicated career for Hudd Steel for 35 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family in the Poconos where he and Nancy built a house in 1977. Bill also enjoyed the Jersey shore in Lavallette, N.J., playing golf, tennis, skiing, fishing, and boating. He was a kind and giving man, ushering at AllSaints church, coaching youth football and baseball and teaching many of his children's friends how to ski. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
