Yutaka Tonai
Yutaka Tonai passed away on the evening of September 15, 2020, at the age of 89. Yutaka was born in Terminal Island, California on January 11, 1931, to Gengoro and Toyone Tonai. He was the youngest of five children. Yutaka spent most of his life in the Southern California area except for the years his family was interned at the Amache Relocation Center in Colorado. He received a degree in engineering from UCLA and married Mariane (Mitzi) Ando on August 17, 1958. They were married for 57 years until her passing in 2016. He was a long-time resident of Irvine and San Clemente, having recently moved to Murrieta. Yutaka was an engineer and worked with CTS Halex for over 35 years. He was a golfer and avid sports fan, rooting for his Bruins and Lakers. Yutaka was a kind, soft-spoken and friendly man with a dry sense of humor and sharp intellect. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Michael Tonai, Kevin (Jennifer) Tonai, and Jennifer (Jon Walters) Tonai; his grandchildren, Jessica and Julia Tonai, and Mika and Declan Walters; his brother, Minoru Tonai; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
