Howard Raymond Mendoza
Howard Raymond Mendoza Howard Raymond Mendoza, 93, passed away August 31, 2020 at his home in Indio, following several years of failing health. He was born February 8, 1927 in Huntington Park to Frank and Emma Montijo Mendoza. He joined his parents in Thermal when they came there to farm in 1942. Howard left CVUHS in his senior year to join the Merchant Marine. He served in the Pacific and was in Japan when the War ended. Returning home, he was informed that he had not fulfilled his military commitment, so he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving one full year with occupation forces in Korea. When he finally came home, he joined his father and three brothers to form Mendoza Farms, one of the largest and most successful farming operations in the Valley for some years. He married Gloria Main in 1952. Howard was well known for his gourmet cooking and beautiful garden and flowers. In later years, he and Gloria enjoyed traveling through all the United States and most of Europe. He is survived by his wife, son Brent Mendoza, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and his six great-great grandsons. The family wishes to thank the staff at Family Hospice Care for more than six months tender care. No services are planned.
