ELON - Anna Laetitia Jones passed away peacefully at her home in Elon, North Carolina, on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the age of 94. She was happily married to Hugh O'Neal Jones Jr. (d. 2008) for 59 years and is survived by her son, O'Neal Jones (Dianne Ford); her daughter, Ellen McNair (Steve McNair); her three grandchildren, Emma Jones (Christopher Eyl), Able Jones, and Isaac McShane; two great-grandchildren, Ruby and Rowan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends completed her circle of a well-lived life. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Robert B. White of Greensboro, North Carolina. Born in 1926 and raised in Suffolk, Waverly, and Portsmouth, Virginia, she graduated from Mary Washington College in 1947 and lived her life with a passion for education and life-long learning. Anna and Hugh lived and worked in several regions of the country and built strong communities of friends in Park Forest, Illinois, Burlington, Iowa, Wyckoff, New Jersey, Naperville, Illinois, and enjoyed their retirement years in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the family matriarch, an avid reader, world traveler, librarian, and gardener. Anna's enthusiastic commitment to P.E.O. was evidenced in her support of the projects, creative fund-raising efforts, and the numerous times she held various offices over the span of her 58-year membership. She spent her last five years within a warm community of friends at The Hamlet in Elon, North Carolina. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
