Barbara (Morris) Melcer
Barbara Melcer Longtime Bridgewater resident Barbara (Morris) Melcer of Somerset, N.J., passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset. She was 79. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Barbara lived in Bridgewater, N.J., for 40 years, before residing in The Renaissance at Somerset for the past six years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an administrator for The Jointure for Community & Adult Education which also ran the after school for programs in Somerset County for 10 years. She was involved in her children's activities, a Girl Scout troup leader, volunteered in her children's classrooms and also volunteered at the HappyTimers. Barbara was a congregant of Temple Shalom in Bridgewater, for over 40 years. Barbara spent her time reading romantic novels, playing Mahjong, watching the Giants and Mets games and crocheting scarves, starting as scarves for her beloved granddaughter's dolls and progressing from there. Mostly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Sheldon Melcer; her daughter, Heather, of California; her son, Brian and his wife, Michelle, of East Brunswick, N.J.; her two grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew; and her brother, Jeffrey Morris, of Florida.
