Griffin, James James Edward Griffin, age 92, passed away on September 14, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hermena Griffin, and two brothers, John (Anne) and Joseph (Barbara). He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dolores DuRocher Griffin; 5 children, James Jr., Kathleen, Martin, Nancy, and Patricia; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Jim was born in Detroit where he attended St. Ambrose Grade and High School. He graduated from Michigan State University and Air Force ROTC. He married Dolores in 1949 and spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1952-1956. During those years, they lived in California, Alaska, and upstate New York. After discharge, they returned to Detroit to be with family and friends and watch their family grow. Jim loved playing bridge, doing water exercises, talking about playing football and basketball at St. Ambrose, and watching Notre Dame football. He owned and operated a small lumber and millwork company in Detroit, worked until age 79, and retired to Grand Rapids in 2008. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 18, at 1:00 PM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (2750 Burton St. SE) with visitation prior to the service from 12-12:45 PM at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
