In memory of
Marilyn Beard
Marilyn Ruth Everse Beard, age 85, of Cahaba Heights, passed away on Wednesday, the 9th of September 2020. A member of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Marilyn's passions were her faith and nurturing others. Caring for her children and grandchildren, and later in life, her mother, gardening, walking, a rich reading life, and her many friendships filled her life with joy. She served as the secretary of Briarwood Presbyterian Church for its first 40 years and spent her days of retirement with her family, the Friends of the Vestavia Library, the Panorama Study Club, Silver Sneakers at Lakeshore Rehab Center, and fostering her friendships through her "Society of Old Friends" and "Tea Angels" groups among others. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mabel Everse, her siblings, Roger Everse, Eleanor Haan, and Harold Everse, her son, Todd Beard, her son-in-law, Stephen Malone, and her former husband, J. Donald Beard. She is survived by her children, Michael Beard (Tricia), Mark Beard, and Melanie Walker-Malone, grandchildren Austin Beard (Amy), Charles Beard, Brian Beard, Madeleine Odendahl (Ben), Anna Claire Walker, Colin Walker, Brennan Walker, Margaret Malone, Mary Bakarich (Andrew), and Wesley Malone and two great-grandchildren, Rhodes Odendahl and Rowan Bakarich. She will be interred in the garden at All Saints Episcopal in a small, family service. The family is grateful to Marilyn's caregiver, Brenda Gray, and to Marilyn's many friends for their care and unending love. Our mother would agree with Emily Dickinson that "my friends are my estate." The family requests that memorials be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, Vestavia Public Library, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or the Outdoor Classroom Project at Red Mountain Community School. An online memorial has been prepared at https://www.mykeeper.com/profile/MarilynBeard/ .
