In memory of
Carl Benton
Benton, Carl 9/15/1940 - 9/8/2020 Carson City Carl Benton passed away in the arms of his family on September 8, 2020. He was born on September 15, 1940, the son of Norris and Alice (Ball) Benton. On January 28, 1961, Carl married Patricia Ward and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage together. Carl will be remembered as the larger-than-life patriarch of his family. His charm and kindness brought family and friends together. Carl adored his family and love spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a natural teacher; and loved to teach music and life lessons, among other things. Carl was a die hard Democrat and he could debate politics tirelessly. Carl was a skilled musician and taught himself to play many instruments, but he especially loved the banjo. He was a jack of all trades and loved gardening, fixing things, and figuring out how things worked. Carl served our country in the US Air Force, where he played tuba in the military band. Carl had a soft spot for animals and, throughout his life, he took in stray and abused animals. Carl is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Wanda (Ron) Music, Dianne (Mark) Winslow, and Ward (Kristy) Benton; siblings, Christy (Leo) Garcia, and Lorrainne Mabee; sister-in-law, Kathy Benton; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kara, Erin, Kathryn, Allison, Alexander, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Raymond, Jordan, and Katie; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous other friends, family, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Debra Sue Benton. He was also preceded by his brothers, Donald Benton and Rev. Dale Benton. As per Carl's wishes, cremation has occurred with a memorial service to occur at a later date. Donations in Carl's name may be sent to Dalis to the Rescue, animal rescue at 303 Valley Ave., Alma, MI 48801.
