In memory of
Ruth Diane Cullen
Ruth Diane Cullen Aug. 20, 1932 - Aug. 9, 2020 Ruth Diane Cullen was born in Medford, Ore., Aug. 20, 1932 to Robert and Myrtle Newland. She lived most of her youth in Bend, Ore., where she attended Bend high school. She died Aug. 9, 2020, 11 days shy of her 88th birthday, at her home in Beaverton, with family at her side. Diane (her preferred name) was a force of nature and everyone who knew her loved her. She was loving, generous, enthusiastic about life, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was an animal lover, who reminded everyone about "living in the present moment." Diane was an avid bridge player for 50 years and earned the distinction of becoming an Emerald Life Master during her years playing the game. Her bridge community was her second family. She was an avid sports enthusiast and attended her children's sporting events while they were growing up. She was their biggest (and loudest) fan! Diane was involved for years with the Portland Rose Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and spent countless hours raising funds and procuring items for their annual auction. She achieved her goal of raising one million dollars for scholarships for young women and men. Diane is survived by her three children, Robert Hawes, Jr. (Ardie), Brenda Hawes and Liana Hawes; seven grandchildren, Amy Murphy (Chris), Taryn DiNucci (Rion), Marenda Chamberlin (Heidi), Zachary Chamberlin (Thylda), Kaylee Rice, Brad Myers (Lecia), Brian Myers (Joann); and nine great-grandchildren. Diane was preceded in death by first husband, Robert Hawes, Sr.; second husband and soulmate, Paul Cullen; and youngest daughter, Lisa Hawes. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service for Diane is being postponed until such time as it is safe to have a celebration to honor her life. Rest in peace in God's loving embrace beautiful woman! May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! You can honor Diane's life by living your life with passion, an open heart and deep compassion for ALL beings.
