Philip L. Cheek
Philip L. Cheek, age 72, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away surrounded by his devoted wife, son and daughter on Sunday, August 2nd from complications due to COVID19. . Born in Burlington, NC, and raised in Saxapahaw, NC, Philip was the eldest of three children. He graduated in 1970 from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's of Science in mechanical engineering, then went on to work for Pratt & Whitney (aerospace technologies), Georgia Power, BellSouth, and Childress Klein Properties. While working at BellSouth in Atlanta, GA, he met and married his beloved wife Connie, and the two celebrated their 45th anniversary earlier this year. Philip was a truly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His deep love of the natural world led him to hiking, camping, trout fishing, gardening, road cycling, and most of all: mountain biking. He was known throughout the southeast for his cheerful and humorous – but also competitive – disposition in regional mountain bike races. He was a longtime and deeply-loved member of Northbrook United Methodist Church in Roswell, GA, where he contributed to many service projects and activities, and sang in the choir for many years. He is survived by his wife Connie S. Cheek, Marietta, GA; son Jason Cheek and daughter-in-law Taylor Cheek, Nashville, TN; daughter Courtney Krebs and son-in-law Brandon Krebs, Kennesaw, GA; stepdaughter Kirsten Salas, Cumming, GA; granddaughter Eden Krebs, granddaughter Laurel Cheek, grandson Lucas Krebs; step-granddaughter Tyler Salas; sister Rebecca Cheek and brother-in-law Walt Nelson, Newport, OR; and brother Michael Cheek and sister-in-law Kay Cheek, Coinjock, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Candler and Myrtilla Cheek. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Philip's honor to Northbrook UMC (11225 Crabapple Rd., Roswell, GA 30075). A graveside funeral will be held at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Saxapahaw, NC, at 10:00am on Saturday August 15th
