Benkhardt, Robert F. Robert F. (Bob) Benkhardt age 90 after a long battle with dementia, left the home of his daughter and son-in-law on Friday, August 7, 2020 and walked into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ with his family standing around his bed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn; mother, Anna Marie; brother, Jim; mother and father-in-law, Don & Dorothy Singleton; grandson, Nicholas Duke; daughter, Michelle Voruganti; many family members and friends. He has said a temporary farewell to his wife of 28 years, Julie Ann Benkhardt; sons, Robert (Chrystal) Benkhardt, Duane Benkhardt, Kevin (Brenda) Benkhardt; daughters, Debbie (Steve) Joseph, Tammy (Bob) Duke; step-son, Tim (Christine) Robinson; step-daughter, Tami Robinson. Bob has 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with brothers and sisters-in-law and dozens of nieces and nephews. Bob attended the Salvation Army from his earliest youth, where he learned to play the baritone horn, which he also played while serving in the United States Army Band. He has served in leadership positions in the Salvation Army in both Grand Rapids and Petoskey for several decades, and was often seen by the Christmas kettles, playing his baritone. Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, going for walks and spending time with people. He loved people. The family will greet friends Sunday, August 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be Monday, August 10 at 10:00 am at The Springs Church, 135 N. Grant St., Cedar Springs. Interment Kent Memorial Gardens, Byron Center. Please observe mask regulations and social distancing guidelines.
