Pauline is survived by sons, David (Vicki) Briggs of Sierra Vista, Arizona and William (Ann) Briggs of Walker, MI; grandchildren, Troy (Lea) Briggs, Nic Briggs (Menazuri), Megan (Chet) Tompkins, Ben Briggs (fiance Emilie Pretzer) and Ian Briggs; great-grandchildren, Sylas Briggs, Leonidas Briggs and a great-granddaughter on the way; her siblings Kathleen Darman, Bonnie Schantz, Charles Schantz and Donna (Larry) Lanning; brothers and sisters-in-law Laurel Schantz, Dolores (Richard) Chapin, Shirley Briggs; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gordon and Pauline hosted several exchange students over the years and maintained a close relationship with their Filipino student, Benedict (Joanne) Acosta and their children, Benjamin and Alex. They counted Benedict as another son. Pauline had many incredible talents. She was a beautiful seamstress and she had a passion for knitting. Pauline was a member of the Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines and a long-time member of Sparta United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary. Pauline also worked for years as a medical assistant. She and Gordon moved to Tucson, AZ in 1991 and became active members of Desert Skies United Methodist Church. They returned to Michigan in 2017 as their health deteriorated. Pauline found the greatest joy with her children and grandchildren. She was an incredible grandma and never hesitated to get down on the floor and play with them for hours. Other favorite things included crossword puzzles, Nora Robert's novels, camping and baking. She will be dearly missed by many. Because of the current Covid-19 restrictions, we will not have a service at this time. A joint memorial service for Pauline and Gordon will be celebrated at a later date. Pauline's family offers a sincere thank you to the staff at Edison Christian Health Center and Emmanuel Hospice for providing Pauline with exceptional care. Arrangements are being handled by Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home in Sparta. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, please consider the Alzheimer's Association. www.hesselcheslek.com
