In memory of
June Criss
Criss, June Ypsilanti, MI Age 101, died peacefully in her home, where she had lived for over 65 years, on Friday, July 31, 2020. June was one of thirteen children, born on June 18, 1919 in Farmington, Michigan to George and Maude (Stanley) Conroy. The family moved to a farm in the Petoskey area where June attended school. Like many children raised in the Great Depression she quit school at the age of thirteen to work and help her family. June began her career in patient care at Ypsilanti State Regional Psychiatric Hospital in 1940. She met and fell in love with her husband "Gailen" while working there. Their plans to wed in 1942 were delayed by WWII and Gailen's call to duty. They married on May 26, 1943 and spent 56 years together until his passing on February 12, 2000. She continued to live independently in the family home until her death. June retired in 1979 and enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time in northern Michigan visiting her life-long friend Wanda Jachimowicz. She was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion Post in Milan, MI and made many dear friends during her volunteer work. She was a life-long gardener, pet owner, avid bowler and loved spending time with and finding ways to support family members and the many friends that loved her too. She is survived by her two sons: Gailen David (Jenny) Criss, Jr. of Milan and Michael (Ann) Criss of Plymouth, two grandchildren: Gregory and Amanda Criss, one great- grandson Gierrod Criss, his mother Amy and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Gailen, she was preceded in death by her twelve brothers and sisters. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service followed by burial will be held at Marble Park Cemetery, Milan on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00am. Those desiring may make contributions to the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion Post 268 (44 Wabash St., Milan, MI 48160).
