On Monday, August 3, 2020, Frank H. Price, Jr., passed away at the age of 83. He was at his home in Wilmore, Kentucky, and surrounded by his wife and family. Together with his wife Carolyn, he founded and directed Pine Hill Day Camp in north Alabama, where for 32 years they lifted the spirits of thousands of children. They authored a memoir, Happy Happy Joy Joy about the experience. He loved his dogs, telling stories, helping others, and a dish of butter pecan ice cream. Frank was born on July 30, 1937, in Decatur, Alabama, the son of Frank H. Price, Sr., and Frances Eaves Price. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1955. After attending Auburn University and Purdue University, he married Carolyn June Pike in 1966. In 1976 he and Carolyn moved from Carmel, Indiana to north Alabama and began Pine Hill. In addition to summer camp, for thirteen years Frank worked with several Decatur churches to offer "Camp Joy" for Boys and Girls Club participants. Frank exemplified the motto "Service Above Self." He was an active member of the Decatur, Alabama Rotary Club, with 42 years perfect attendance, and received the Four-Way Test award. Later he served as Chairperson of the board of the historic Princess Theater in downtown Decatur. He also served the American Camp Association as national board member, president of the Mid-South section, and Chairperson of the 1997 National Conference. He was active in St. John's Episcopal church, in Decatur, and in Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky. Frank is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons Frank III "Chip" and Edward (Diana); grandchildren Sophia and Alex; and his dog Sparkles. A memorial service will be held when circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rotary Foundation Annual Fund, the Christ Church Cathedral Music program, or St. John's Episcopal Church.
