Frederick Pettit
Pettit, Frederick 4/7/1955 - 7/30/2020 Ann Arbor, Michigan Frederick "Fred" James Pettit, age 65, of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Fred was born on April 7, 1955, the youngest of four sons, to parents John and Clara (Schartz) Pettit. After graduating from Grosse Pointe South High School, Fred moved on to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering. In 1982, Fred met his future wife, Jane Woodworth, through mutual friends while they were both living in Ann Arbor. The two married in Howell, Michigan on July 30, 1983. Together, they had two children, Will and Matt, and raised their family in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At a young age Fred developed his passion for sailing at Crescent Sail Yacht Club with his three brothers in Grosse Pointe. Later in life, his passion turned towards fishing, especially fly fishing. He traveled to various parts of northern Michigan to fish as well as Colorado and Belize. Music was also a lifelong passion for Fred. He played the French horn in high school and would proudly play the U of M fight song on his Baritone on the front porch during Michigan Football games. He was a proud Wolverine fan! Out of all of the hobbies Fred had, it was his sons' basketball careers that held a special place in his heart as he spent many wonderful moments coaching and supporting his boys, taking them and many of their teammates to practices and basketball tournaments, announcing the Pioneer basketball games and even singing the national anthem when the recording wouldn't play! For Fred, family was his #1 priority. He was devoted to his sons and was so proud of all they had achieved. He adored his grandson, especially the time spent teaching him to fish. As a loving husband, Fred cherished each of the 37 wonderful years he and his wife shared together. Fred will be missed deeply by his wife, Jane W. Pettit; his sons, Will and Matt; his grandson, Josh; and siblings, Tom (Molly) and Peter (Carol) and his sister-in-law Kathie Pettit. Fred was preceded in death by his brother, John Pettit. Private cremation services have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc., Post Office Box 695, LaPlata, MD 20646; please annotate on your donation "for the Ann Arbor Program"or online at https://projecthealingwaters.org/ .
