Casimir V. Galdis
Galdis, Casimir V. age 97, of Rockford, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on August 1, 2020 in Rockford, Michigan. He was born on March 1, 1923 to Joseph and Anna (Solvan) Galdis in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated from Union High School in 1942. In high school he received the Distinguished Dillingham Cup for outstanding extra curricular activities. He was drafted into the Army on January 8, 1943 and served in the European Theater 1943-1946 where he was a Radio Operator using Morse Code. He was honorably discharged as a TEC 4 on February 3, 1946. He attended Davenport College. He married Gertrude Antecki Galdis in 1947 and they were married 61 years when she preceded him death in 2009. Casimir worked for his brother Stanley at Grand Rapids Carvers for 18 years before joining the Post Office where he worked for 21 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, where he served as Secretary and President, and a member of St. Isidore before moving to Rockford when he joined the Our Lady of Consolation parish in Rockford. He was also a member of the VFW in Grand Rapids. Casimir is survived by his son Charles Patrick (Gloria) Galdis of Comstock Park; two grandsons: Vincent Galdis, Brian (Lisa) Galdis; granddaughter LeeAnn (Jessica) Foster; two great-granddaughters: Madison Galdis, Vivian Galdis; two great-grandsons: Logan Galdis, Layne Galdis; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers: John Hartman, Vincent Galdis, Stanley Galdys, Tony Galdis, Frank Galdis, sister Ceil Isabelle, and half-sister Pauline. Visitation will be held the hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 11:oo am at the Our Lady Of Consolation Catholic Church in Rockford with Father Andrew Ayers officiating.
