Patrick Henry Monahan Suffern - Patrick Henry Monahan passed away peacefully on July 30th surrounded by his family. The son of the late Patrick and Rhoda (Bane) Monahan was born on June 28, 1936 in a five story walk up at 234 East 89th in New York City. Patrick was a retired New York City firefighter spending his career with Ladder 29 and Ladder 36 for 19 years where he received numerous Distinguished Service awards. He also served as an NYPD officer from 1959 to 1963. He honorably and proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss from 1954 to 1956. Patrick graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in 1954 and received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 1975 from Rockland Community College. Patrick was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and a brother to all the FDNY members. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, NY. Patrick was a kind, giving, caring fun Irishman whose loss will be felt my many. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan and enjoyed watching all sports. Patrick was the person who was always helping someone, be it his family or friends, his fellow firefighters or his church. Patrick was a talented painter and an all-around handyman who enjoyed helping his family around their homes. In addition to his parents, Patrick was predeceased by his adored wife Phyllis (Mastriaco) Monahan, whom he dearly missed every single day. He is survived by his son Patrick and his wife Mary Price, his son Anthony, daughter Donna and her husband Gary Campos and his son Stephen and his wife Teresa. Patrick was also a beloved grandfather to 7 grandchildren: Christina, Brian, Erin, Jenna, Allison, Matthew and Kaylee, in addition to 3 great grandchildren, Donal, Nolan and Andrew. Memorial contributions can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Diabetes Association. Due to the public health concerns of the Corona Virus, the services will be private from 3 to 7 on Monday, August 3rd at Scarr Funeral Home with a funeral Mass at 11:00 on August 4th at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern, NY.
