Mary Katherine Burns Peekskill - August 15, 1936-July 14, 2020 Mary Katherine "Katie" Burns was born in Peekskill, New York to the late Edward P. Burns and Madeline (Dugan) Burns. She lived in Peekskill all her life, briefly attended Oakside School, the Assumption School, and was homeschooled until she attended the Keon Center from 1989 until she retired from working there in 2014. Katie participated in the Norwest programs and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. Katie was a voracious knitter and a prize-winning bowler. She loved to swim and to travel with her Sister. Most of all, she loved her family dearly. Katie loved parties—especially her own Birthday Blowouts. Katie is survived by her beloved sister and brother, Madeline (Burns) Stinson of Peekskill and Raleigh, NC, and Edmund J. Burns of Jupiter,Fl. She is survived by twelve Nieces and Nephews: Amy (Burns) Carlin, Eileen Burns, Martha Burns, Paul Arias-Burns, Kathleen (Stinson) Buchanan, Robert J. Stinson, Pamela (Stinson) Burns, William Stinson, Mary Ann (Stinson) Ottaviano, Deborah (Burns) Nielsen, Edmund J. Burns, Jr, and Christopher Burns. Survivors also include nineteen great nieces and nephews, and ten great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Edward P. Burns, Jr. and John E. Burns of Peekskill; a brother-in-law, S. Joseph Stinson; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burns and Charlee Burns. "Katie taught us all that people with disabilities have a place in the community, we learned that they love their family deeply, and that you will never know true love until you are loved by someone with a disability."(Mary Buchanan Pellegrino) Funeral Arrangements are incomplete.
