In memory of
Sandy Martin
Martin , Sandy 1950-2020 Sandra (Dykhouse) Martin-Axelrod, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend passed away unexpectedly due to complications of surgery, near her home in Daytona Beach FL on July 24, 2020. She leaves behind her husband, Dr. David Axelrod, Daytona Beach FL, her two sons by previous marriage, Jeff Martin (Melanie), granddaughters Kate and Audrey of Atlanta GA, Dr. Eric Martin (Lindsey), granddaughter Ella Grace of Waco TX., mother, Phyllis Dykhouse (Hudsonville MI), sisters Belinda (Fred) VanHeulen, Judy (Eric) Robinson, Gail (Kevin) Willard and brother, Jerry Dykhouse, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father John Dykhouse and Brother Jim Dykhouse. Sandy had a wonderful smile, a compassionate spirit, loved her family and always wanted to make a difference helping others. She accomplished that in her career as she worked in various Michigan hospitals and with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta GA. She was a volunteer for the Halifax Urban Ministries and the Community Methodist Church, where she regularly worked in the food and clothing programs, providing assistance for those less unfortunate. She also worked for Florida's Long-term Care Ombudsman Program, attending to the needs of those in assisted-living and nursing home facilities. A private memorial event is being planned by her family. In lieu of flowers, Sandy would love if you would consider a memorial be made to the Community United Methodist Church, Daytona Beach FL or to the Creative Happiness Institute, Daytona, FL, a non-profit arts organization founded by her husband and which she helped direct.
