Sherman, Jerry Carl 1/27/1936 - 7/30/2020 Saline, MI Jerry Carl Sherman. 84, Saline, MI. Passed quietly at home on Thursday, July 30th, in the comforting care and love of his family. Jerry was born and raised in Akron, MI to Carl and Elizabeth (Voss) Sherman. He graduated from Akron High School and served in the Army for 2 years before being honorably discharged. He returned to Akron and married Virginia Wojtalik in 1957, who would be by his side until his passing 62 years later. Jerry used the GI bill to get his teaching certificate and Master's degree from Michigan State University. He taught physical education for 30 years, first at Zilwaukee Junior High and then at Ypsilanti Lincoln. Jerry finished his educational career as the assistant principal at Ypsilanti Lincoln Junior High. Jerry enjoyed spending most of his free time with his wife Virginia and his family, taking long walks, playing cards and vacationing. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, MSU football and basketball, and the University of Kentucky basketball teams. Jerry played on several age division championship level softball teams in his 60s and 70s. He was a faithful member of the Saline United Methodist Church for many years. Jerry will be missed by his wife Virginia; daughter Susan (Steve Pennington) Sherman; son William (Shelly) Sherman; brother Max (Jeanette) Sherman; and several nephews and their families; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dale. A private funeral is planned for immediate family only. Donations in Jerry's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Huron Valley.
