In memory of
Clara Calabrese
Clara Pauline Calabrese, 83, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her family on July 28 in Springfield. Clara was born on January 29th, 1937 to the late George and Helen Percanico and grew up in the south end of Springfield later moving to West Springfield in 1969 where her and her husband Gabriel raised their children. Clara was a loving woman and her family was her world. She did however extend that love to many children at the John Ashley school where she was the “lunch lady” for many years. She also was extremely proud of her Italian heritage and this was well validated by her cooking skills. Her meatballs were second to none, loved by all, and without a doubt infamous. Clara was a very devoted wife to her late husband of 60 years Gabriel and a caring mother to her 3 children. She always embodied and taught others the importance of being kind and nice to everyone you meet. Clara never judged and always wished the best for everyone. Clara leaves her very devoted children, Patricia Casinghino of Agawam, Joseph Calabrese of West Springfield and Lisa Cowell and her husband of Larry of West Springfield; 6 adored grandchildren , Joseph Calabrese, David Casinghino Jr, Angela Casinghino, Amanda Blood, Stephen Cowell and Sara Cowell; 6 great grandchildren Cameron, Caleb, Colten, Gianna, Andrew, and Isabella; 1 sibling Filomena Dziki; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to being predeceased by her husband Gabriel in 2019, she was also predeceased by her sisters Virginia Myers, Georgiana Gendron, and brother Vincent Percanico. The family of Clara would like to thank the staff of Wesson4 for their kindness and compassion during this most difficult time. Calling hours for Clara will be held on Monday August 3 from 10:30-12 noon at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main St followed by a liturgy of Christian burial to be celebrated at 12:30 P.M. at St Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Burial will be held privately for the family at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The family requests for those wishing to donate in Clara’s memory please consider the Shriners Hospitals for Children 516 Carew St Springfield MA 01104.
