YATES CITY - Carroll A. Thomson, 91, Yates City, died at his home at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2020. He was born July 22, 1929, in Table Grove, to Virgil and Gladys (Trimmer) Thomson. He married Joanne (Abrahamson) Thomson in 1951 in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2009. He is survived by three children, Deb (Tim) Toal of Milan, Annette (Mark) Felker of Yates City and Greg (Terri) Thomson of Yates City; one brother, Wayne (Pat) Thomson; one sister, Charlene (Stu) McKechnie; three grandchildren, Jimmy (Claudia) Toal, Chelsea Felker and Alyssa Thomson; and three great-grandchildren, Millie, Owen and Emmy Toal. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Gene Thomson; and two sisters, Sybil Wilson and Doris Yocum. Carroll attended school at Yates City and graduated from Altona High School. He served in the Army for two years in Germany. He worked at Caterpillar for 40 years, retiring from the research department as a mechanic. He was a member of the local Yates City Masonic Lodge and formerly served as an alderman for Yates City and a volunteer fireman at Elba-Salem Fire Department. His true love, though, was farming. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
