In memory of
Gordon Alexander Dowsett
Gordon Alexander Dowsett, MD April 4, 1942 - July 13, 2020 Gordon Alexander Dowsett passed away in his home in Damascus, Ore., on the morning of July 13, 2020; a home with a sweeping view of Mt. Hood that he and Kim, his wife of 40 years, built together and loved. The son of Bob and Lee Dowsett, he grew up in Gresham, Ore., with siblings Mike and Mardee. Gordon attended Gresham High School, the University of Oregon, and the University of Oregon Medical School (OHSU), where he excelled in his studies. After an internship at the UCLA School of Medicine and his residency at OHSU, he served two years in the U.S. Air Force. Gordon began his practice as an otolaryngologist in East Portland in 1976 and was beloved by both patients and co-workers, alike. He then retired in 2000 to fulfill his dream of being a mediocre yet persistent full-time golfer. He was a member of the Columbia Edgewater Country Club for many years as well as a frequent golfer at the Resort at the Mountain golf course, and was known to retrieve clubs from trees and lakes much to the enjoyment of his golf partners. A strong athlete in high school, Gordon closely followed his favorite teams. He was a lifelong Yankees fan and was thrilled to experience games at both the old and new Yankee stadiums. As a faithful U of O Duck football fan, he and Kim were season ticket holders for over 20 years and proudly followed the team to two national championships and multiple bowl games. Friends and family will remember his quick wit, loyalty, and compassion. Those who knew him well will recall his love of: the Welches mountain cabin, Hawaii and snorkeling, fast luxury cars, perfectionist vacuuming, hummingbirds, World War II history, reading nonfiction, dachshunds, story telling, seeing movies in the theater, grilling, ketchup, bbq chicken pizza, Thai food, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen. Gordon is survived by his wife, Kim Dowsett; children, Teresa Blackwell (Judd), Craig Dowsett (JinHee), Amy Widestrom (Jeremy Sullivan) and Kevin Dowsett (Hailey); nine grandchildren, Acacia, Calhoun, Carrigan, Cormac, Conan, Campbell, Hogun, Avila and Sidra; and one great-grandchild, Penny. There will be no service at his request. Remembrances may be sent to Providence Portland Medical Foundation, 4805 N.E. Glisan Street, Portland, OR, 97213.
