Robert Louis Bocignone, 88 Retired FDNY firefighter, relocated to San Diego Robert Louis Bocignone, (Boch) 88, born Sept. 1, 1931, loving son born to Charles and Madeline Bocignone, beloved husband, father, stepfather, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home from prostate cancer in San Diego, Calif., on July 13, 2020. Robert retired FDNY firefighter at Engine 157, Ladder 80 Port Richmond, Robert retired in 1979 and moved to Clairemont, San Diego, in 1980. A native Staten Islander born in Mariners Harbor, he graduated Port Richmond High School. Robert was drafted in the Korean War and served in Panama. Robert was a football quarterback in his youth, and was awarded full scholarship to play college football for Washington State. He built stock cars and raced them at the old Weissglass Speedway in Staten Island. Robert was an avid golfer in his retirement years, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Robert is survived by his wife, Carol; stepson, Joseph Marinello; son, Robert Jr. (Kim); son, Richard (Nora), and twin daughters, Renee Bocignone and Rande Pepe (Robert). He was the brother to late Louise Bocignone, and late Madeline Benitez. He is also survived by one great-grandson, seven grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. Robert was cremated and a private family Mass will be held in his honor.
