In memory of
Kathrin Kudner
Kudner, Kathrin 4/23/1950 - 7/17/2020 Clark Lake Kathrin Elizabeth Kudner, 70 of Ann Arbor and Clark Lake, Michigan passed away Friday, July 17th at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Born in Jackson, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Elizabeth Ann Kudner. Kathrin led a life of personal and professional service. Following graduation from Jackson Parkside High School she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. Upon graduation she served two years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines. Her service in the Corps was a defining time in her life that led to her pursuing a Masters degree in Health Care summa cum laude from the University of Missouri after which she worked for a rural medical and dental health care system in Nevada. Kathrin returned to school a third time for a law degree cum laude from the University of Toledo, (Where she was also Editor of the Law Review.) and then began a 35year career as a health care attorney with DYKEMA – working in Detroit, Chicago and Ann Arbor for the law firm over the years. Kathrin's work was guided by her commitment to the health profession and public health and was truly valued by her clients. She took a particular interest in younger attorneys at the firm and provided an important mentorship and advocacy for their perspective. Kathrin was also involved with pro bono activities throughout her career – most recently with Sound Off an online mental health consulting service to veterans and active duty personnel. She recently had published and participated in a webinar regarding telemedicine and guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic. She regularly received "Best Lawyer" and "Super Lawyer" recognitions statewide and nationally and served on the Board of Directors of various organizations including the former Arbor Hospice and Crittendon Hospitals. Kathrin traveled extensively including an annual trip to Mexico. She loved her home and family and friends on Clark Lake and in particular the raft rides around the lake at dusk. She knew how to appreciate a good time and the annual Clark Lake Raft-a- Rama and 4th of July were very special days on her calendar. She doted on her niece and nephews and grandnieces and nephews and other close relatives. Remembering Kathrin is incomplete without acknowledging that she led the liberal wing of the family and relished a lively discussion (often political) be it with her book club, her family or her friends. Kathrin was an amazing sister, aunt, niece, sister in law, cousin and friend to all. She was a vibrant human being who left us all with a huge empty spot in our hearts. She is survived by her sister Susan (Jan) Starr and brother John McKone (Jacque) Kudner. Her Uncle and Aunt Dick and Martha Kudner, Niece and nephews – Elizabeth Kudner (Derek) Kraus and Chris (Latisse) Kudner and John (Kimberly) Starr and Charles Starr. Grand nieces and nephews: Navi, Weston and Iris Kudner and John Vincent and James Starr. Cousins Don (Jane) Fowler, Barbara (Larry) Browning, Patty Faling and Bruce Fowler. Carrie (John) Hayden, Don (Becky) Kudner, Bill (Bonnie) Kudner, Don (Mary Alice) and Bill McKone and many other friends and family. A private family service is being scheduled. Memorial contributions in Kathrin's honor may be directed to the Peace Corps Alumni Development for Philippine Development https://www.rpcvphilippines.org and the University of Michigan Hospital_ https://leadersandbest.umich.edu/find/#!/give/basket/fund/302706 .
