Captain Joseph Hannan
Captain Joseph George Hannan, 76 Loving father, dear brother, and good friend to many Captain Joseph George Hannan, of the Sandy Hook Pilots Association, passed away July 19, 2020, after battling a long illness. Born Sept. 21, 1943, he was the loving son to the late Madeline and Edward Hannan, and was raised in the house his paternal grandfather built on Bolivar Street in lower Todt Hill. His many accomplishments include graduating from Saint Peter's High School where he enjoyed playing sports and was an avid reader. He was awarded with a basketball scholarship while attending Wagner College. During his college years he was a dedicated youth counselor. Among his many endeavors, he was a retired proud Sandy Hook pilot, an entrepreneur and the proud owner of a hotel used the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. Captain Joseph Hannan was a recipient of a liver transplant 17 years ago. He has lived in Key Largo, Fla., for the past 25 ears. He is survived by his former wife and best friend, Esther Cruz-Hannan from Staten Island; he was a loving father and wonderful role model to his son, actor Jeremy Luke of California; brother to late sister Therese McNamara, sister Denise Bender and George Bender, sister Kathleen Costello and Joseph Costello, brother Edward Hannan and Janis Hannan, late sister and brother-in-law Midge Evans and Arthur Evans, and brother Kenneth Hannan and Linda Hannan. He is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews and 64 grandnieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
