Kenneth "Kenny" Schaeffer
Kenneth 'Kenny' Schaeffer, 65 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints Psalm 116.15 (ESV) Kenneth "Kenny" Schaeffer, a dear servant of the Lord, died in his home in Staten Island on July 10, 2020, after a year-long battle with liver cancer. He had just celebrated his 65th birthday. Born in Brooklyn to the late George and Nora (McCoy) Schaeffer, Kenny graduated from high school in Baltimore, Md., and later went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a seaman. Kenny was best known for his enthusiastic evangelism and humble service to his neighbors and New Dorp Baptist Church in Staten Island, where he was loved by all. Together with his close friend and mentor, Pastor Tom Basile, Kenny completed service projects in Staten Island, as well as Texas and Word of Life Camp in upstate New York. Also an avid learner, Kenny attended New York School of the Bible in Manhattan. In addition to many friends in the New Dorp Baptist Church community and beyond, Kenny is survived by his brothers, George Schaeffer and his wife, Carolyn of Whiting, N.J., and Richard Schaeffer of Howell, N.J., as well as his son, Douglas Vinci of Roanoke, Va., and grandson, Aiden Vinci, also of Roanoke. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Harry. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Kenny's name to support evangelistic outreach in the local church. Contributions may be sent to: New Dorp Baptist Church, 259 Rose Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306.
