In memory of
Julie Ann Cortney (Traub)
Julie Ann Cortney (Traub) passed away on July 5, 2020, in Newport Beach, CA, after a brief illness resulting in organ failure. Raised in Long Beach, CA, she worked as a pediatric nurse there, and then met the love of her life – Mike Cortney – at a poker table in Las Vegas. They married in 1980, settled in Irvine, moved to Northern California for Mike's work, and eventually lived in both Blackhawk and Newport Beach because she had a hard time choosing which she liked better. Julie Cortney liked having choices. Known for her extreme generosity towards both family and friends, she judged things based on value rather than price. She loved playing games that required strategy & skill – which she usually won – but her favorite pastime was playing practical jokes on her spouse. She was also passionate about the color purple. Julie is survived by her devoted husband Mike, her siblings Jim, Mary, Joe and John, her in-laws Jacquie, Julie, Jim, Carol, Kay, and Fred, her nieces and nephews Joshua, Jamie & Mike, Therese & Billy, Amy & Ronnie, Jay & Jing, Josie, Jackson, Molly & Zack, Jordan & Lisa, Doug & Blue, Mary Jo & Kayvan, Cathy & Mike, Jennifer, and Debra & Manuel, as well as her grandnieces and grandnephews Isabelle, Anna, Victoria, Juno, Eleanor, Violet, Austin, Connor, Brooklyn, Emma, Madeleine, Tasha, Alisha, Alivia, Sofia, Allison, and Natalia. We will all miss her extraordinary sparkle, as we each remember her in our own special way. Due to COVID-19, services will be held at a later date – and, in lieu of sending flowers, please buy some for yourself. She would like that.
