HAW RIVER- James B. Ray, 72, formerly of Haw River, passed away Monday, June 29, 2020. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Ann Ray and the son of James E. Ray and Pauline Baker Ray, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps serving in Vietnam and Japan. Mr. Ray was a retired truck driver and former firefighter. In addition to his wife of Batesburg, SC, survivors include a daughter, Michelle Clayton and husband Brad; son, Michael Ray and wife Jennifer; step daughter, Anita Godfrey; two step sons, Theodore Godfrey and Glenn New; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Grant of Philadelphia, TN and Toni Hicks and husband Jerry of Buford, GA; brother, David Ray and wife Betty of Haw River; and sister-in-law, Betty Miller Ray. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Ray. A private service will be held at a later date in Batesburg, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haw River Fire Department, P.O. Box 142, Haw River, NC 27258.
