In memory of
James L. Fischer
James L. Fischer, 82, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Saturday June 27, 2020 at Colonial Park Care Center. Born December 1, 1937, in Columbia, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Sarah (McClain) Fischer and Edward Fischer, Sr. On April 11, 1987, he was united in marriage with Brenda J. (Schlappich) Fischer, with whom he shared a union of 33 years. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Jim was employed as a Computer Programmer by the Department of Defense at the Letterkenny Army Depot. Following his retirement, he worked at Hersheypark, as a Supervisor, in the Sweeps Department. Jim had varied interests – fishing, gardening, bird watching, photography and caring for the family cats. It was clear that family was always a foremost priority to Jim; his grandchildren were very important to him and they were always in his thoughts. Over the years, he enjoyed the many vacations the family took to Disney World. Jim was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda, and his children, James Fischer Jr. (Beckie) of Lititz, Kathleen Bond (Kerry) of Lenhartsville, William Fischer (Jennifer) of Norcross, GA, Susan Ciferri (Robert) of Reading, Bryan Fischer (Christina) of Myerstown and Melissa Fischer (Joshua Centini) of Harrisburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Anne Shillow, of Columbia; sister-in-law, Elsie Fischer, of Lancaster and mother-in-law, Myrle Schlappich, of Bernville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Fischer, Jr. His Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday July 2, 2020 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, with Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville. The family will receive friends at his viewing, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or at lbda.org .
